Outlets and switches are the parts of your electrical system you touch every day, and they do more safety work than they get credit for. A GFCI outlet in the kitchen or bath is what stands between you and a shock. A worn-out outlet with loose grip is a heat source hiding behind your furniture.

GFCI protection where code requires it
Ground-fault protection is required by code in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, laundry areas, crawl spaces, unfinished basements, and all outdoor locations. Anywhere water and electricity can meet, a GFCI is what shuts off power in milliseconds when current leaks where it should not.
Many older homes are missing GFCI protection entirely, or have it only in the bathrooms. We add it where it belongs, either as GFCI outlets or as GFCI breakers protecting the whole circuit.
Dead outlet troubleshooting
When an outlet dies, the cause is usually upstream: a tripped GFCI on the same circuit feeding it, a loose connection in a junction box, a failed outlet, or a tripped breaker. Homeowners can safely check one thing: look for a GFCI outlet nearby, in the kitchen, bath, or garage, and press its reset button.
If that does not bring it back, the diagnosis needs a meter and someone who knows how to use it. We trace the circuit from the outlet back to the panel, find where power stops, and fix that point.
Upgrades worth making
Beyond repairs, a few outlet and switch upgrades make daily life noticeably better. Dimmers in dining rooms and bedrooms, sized correctly for LED bulbs so they do not flicker or buzz. USB outlets at nightstands and desks, so the chargers disappear into the wall. Three-way switches that finally let you control the hallway or stair lights from both ends. Tamper-resistant outlets that are now code for homes with young children.
Common questions
Why did half my kitchen outlets stop working?
They are almost certainly all on one GFCI-protected circuit, and the GFCI tripped. Find the GFCI outlet, usually the one with the test and reset buttons, and press reset. If it will not reset or trips again immediately, call us.
My plugs fall out of the outlet. Is that a problem?
Yes. Loose grip means poor contact, and poor contact creates heat and arcing behind the outlet. Worn outlets should be replaced. It is a quick job and a real fire-safety improvement.
Can I replace an outlet myself?
We recommend against DIY electrical work beyond pressing a GFCI reset button. Outlets look simple, but wrong wiring, reversed polarity, or a missing ground creates hazards you cannot see. It is inexpensive to have it done right.
Do dimmers work with LED bulbs?
Only when the dimmer is rated for LEDs and the bulbs are dimmable. Old dimmers on LED bulbs cause flicker, buzzing, and short bulb life. We install LED-rated dimmers matched to your bulbs.
What is a three-way switch?
A setup that controls one light from two locations, like top and bottom of stairs or both ends of a hallway. If your home is missing one, we can usually add it.
